Trevor Sauer, a doctor from Cashmere, Queensland, appeared as a contestant on the sixteenth and seventh episodes of Series 5 of the Australian version of the show on 28 August and 4 September 2000. He won $500,000, breaking Englishman Paddy Spooner's record as the show's biggest winner.

He appeared on the show again on 14 February 2005 teamed up with cricketing legend Shane Warne on a "Celebrity Roulette" edition of the show. He won another $500,000, but this time all the money was donated to charity.

He joined Sharon Cuneta, Takeshi Kitano and Anders and Peter Lund Madsens in having seen the final question twice. Each contestant has had different outcomes.

He appeared in the Fastest Finger First row on 12 June 2000 (the episode with two tiebreakers in a row) but didn't get into the Hot Seat.

According to the show's website, Trevor has no regrets about not winning the million, and planned to spend the money on a holiday with his wife and invest in a bush hideaway.
