UK 1998 Money Tree

On the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? franchise, the money tree is the amounts of prizes awarded for each correct answer until the contestant reaches the final question. On most versions of the money tree, upon answering a certain number of questions correctly, the contestant is guaranteed to win a certain amount of money (that is, they cannot leave the game with less than that amount). The amounts are not cumulative (except in the first round of the US shuffle format). Rather, the contestant's total winnings are increased to the amount of the question they answered correctly (i.e., if the player answers the first three questions, they win $300, not $600 [$100+$200+$300]).

Not all versions of the money tree in the same language agree on what the money tree should be called, as the name doesn't translate well into most languages. For example, in some Spanish-language versions it is referred to as the "árbol de premios" ("Tree of Rewards"), whilst in others it is referred to as the "sequencia de premios" ("Sequence of Rewards").

The shuffle format has a different and more complicated money tree for its format. Gameplay was split into two rounds. In the first round, the contestant would face ten questions with random shuffled difficulty and random unknown values ranging from $100 to $25,000; answering these questions correctly would reveal the amount behind it and add such amount to the contestant's "bank"; amounts are cumulative in this part of the art of the money tree, with a maximum of $68,600 (if the contestant never uses their jumps in the first round). In the second round, the contestant would face four increasingly difficult questions; answering these questions correctly would increase the contestant's "bank" value up to $100,000, $250,000, $500,000, and $1,000,000, in that order.

Like the original format, the contestant can end the game by walking away from a question without answering it. Answering a question incorrectly would still end a contestant's game. In the first round, the contestant would leave with only half of the "bank" value upon walking away from a question; in this round, the contestant would leave with $1,000 upon answering a question incorrectly. In the second round, the contestant would leave with the entire "bank" value upon walking away from a question, unlike the first round; in this round, the contestant would leave with $25,000 upon answering a question incorrectly.

With the shuffling of values, there are 3,628,800 possible combinations for this money tree. For the sake of simplicity, the money tree shown below orders the values in ascending order and assumes that the contestants never used any Jump the Question lifeline on the second round. Ranges are used for the Walk Away Value, Miss Answer Value, and the Amount Lost for a Wrong Answer within the first 11 questions.
