Trivia[]

  • From 2000 to 2001, the show was filmed in the first studio of the British version, and some episodes of the Season 1 were filmed in the studio of the French version then in 2002 the show was moved to Cairo, in 2005 moved to Beirut and then returned in Cairo in 2016. In 2021, the show was filmed in the studio of the Portugal Hot Seat version. Finally in 2024, the show is filmed in the studio of the current Turkish version.
    • When the show was filmed at Elstree, the show recruited a local Arab audience and even used the British warm-up man, who knew absolutely no Arabic.
    • The show was filmed in between the breaks during the filming of the British version. This is presumably the same as with the Turkish version.
  • In 2000, the show's popularity meant that the Egyptian Islamic authority, the Grand Mufti, issued a fatwa condemning the show, on the basis that potential contestants had to phone in without knowing whether they would win or not. However, the Al-Azhar University, one of the highest religious authorities in Sunni Islam, overruled it on the basis that Islam encourages the spread of knowledge, which even big-money game shows help to do.
    • Had the fatwa been backed by other higher organizations in Islam, this version would have been the first time that a version of Millionaire is explicitly banned in a country. This could have also jeopardized the existence of the Egyptian version.
  • Almost immediately after the release of the game, the show gained huge ratings. This was achieved thanks to the merits of the host himself, George Kurdahi.
  • The early Fastest Finger First monitors used a different logo to the show itself: the monitors used only one line in the dollar signs, as opposed to two in the title card.
  • In 2001, host George Kurdahi took part in the show, exchanging places with a celebrity contestant, but he was able to take out of the studio only 1,000 rials, reaching 6 questions.
  • The show has been repeated on KSA1, LBC and Egypt TV1.
