This is the twenty second season of Kto khochet stat' millionerom?, the Russian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Except O, Schastlivchik!'s seasons). The host is Dmitry Dibrov, being his last season.

He was replaced by Yulianna Karaulova, who is now the current host of the show.

Changes[]

  • In August 2021, the producers, the TV show cast and crew announced changes to the show after 7 years of celebrity episodes (there were no regular contestants from February 1, 2014 to October 3, 2020). It was reported that themed episodes are expected from the 22nd season, a questionnaire for selecting regular contestants to appear, plans for the restoration of the set (the scenery appeared in 2011), replacement of spotlights and studio lighting.
  • On October 22, 2021, after almost 8 years (for the period 2014-2021, almost only celebrities appeared in the run), Channel One announced the recruitment of ordinary contestants from all over Russia to participate in the show. In this regard, the team published a participant's questionnaire on the project page.
  • This was the third season in a row to have an empty studio, but, it was the last.
  • In addition, for the first time since 2008, the team announced the replacement of the host, who is now Karaulova. On December 16, 2021, the last filming of the Dibrov era took place.
  • On February 8, 2022, the next stage of the selection of ordinary contestants who applied by filling out a questionnaire on the Channel One website started. The editors started calling and asking questions (15 simple questions in total, 5 of them with options, 10 without options). After that, the best candidates will be invited to the studio (several candidates: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Trivia[]

  • In the 1st episode, in the Russian version's history, the second trio appeared.
  • In the 2nd episode, in the second game of the episode, 5 contestants appeared: Alexandra Patskevich, Vlada Chigireva, Marina Golyadkina, Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Alla Shishkina. The contestants (Olympic champions) replaced each other during the run. Similar to a mechanic used in the Hindi version of the show.
  • In the 3rd episode, for the first time in the history of the Russian version, a teleconference was held. Relatives and friends were able to support Yekaterina and Mariya during the game through a teleconference, which was organized from the republican media center "Sakhamedia" (Yakutsk, Republic of Yakutia).
  • In the 4th episode, Olga and Marusya chose 10,000 rubles as a safety net - the second smallest minimum amount ever chosen, (in the last time, celebrity couple Alexander Ivanov and Vladimir Presnyakov chose this safety net in 2012). Marusya (Mariya) Gutova become the became the youngest contestant in the Russian version's history (6 years old) after Yekaterina Starshova (first appeared as a 9 year old in 2011 and then as an 11 year old in 2013).
  • In the 5th episode, the pairs who took part chose 200,000 rubles as a safety net, but both of them won 800,000 rubles. It is a rare case in the Russian version's history, winning 800,000 rubles twice in an episode, probably the first episode.
  • In the 6th episode, Irina and Vasilisa, chose 400,000 rubles as a safety net but answered the 15th question wrong, lost 1,100,000 rubles and won 400,000 rubles, this was the first time for the 15th question to be incorrect since December 2018 and the 15th question wrong cue was played. Prior to that, the 14th question win cue and the 15th question music cue was played for the first time since January 8, 2020, when Anton Komolov and Viktor Vasilyev, played for the 3 million rubles.
  • In the 7th episode, the first pair chose 200,000 rubles as a safety net but took 50,000 rubles, a lot of pairs usually risk 50,000 rubles to go for 100,000 rubles or just leave with nothing! They chose the sensible option of walking away and the second couple won absolutely nothing.
  • In the 10th episode, contestants Stas Namin, Valery Diorditsa and Oleg Predtechensky became the 3rd trio in the Russian version's history.
  • In the 11th episode, contestants Eleonora Sevenard, Denis Rodkin and Mikhail Lobukhin became the 4th trio in the Russian version's history.
  • In the 14th episode, Anna Mishina and Gennady Smirnov became the second top prize losers in this season, they lost 1,100,000 rubles and won 400,000 rubles.
  • In the 16th episode, Viktor and Anna, chose 400,000 rubles as a safety net but answered the 14th question wrong, lost 400,000 rubles and won 400,000 rubles. This was the second time since 2020 for the 14th question to be incorrect and they had the 'Double Dip' intact. They repeated this from Anna Banshchikova and Andrey Urgant from October 1, 2016.
  • This was the third and final time that the Double Dip was used on the penultimate question.
  • Initially, the 19th episode (February 5, 2022) not aired in all regions of Russia due to the broadcast of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. In Moscow time zone, this episode on April 30, 2022 aired.
  • From February 26, 2022 to April 2, 2022, broadcasts were temporarily cancelled, due to the events in Ukraine, alongside the rapid inflation of the Russian ruble caused by said events. For your information, 10 million Ukrainians have been displaced, and thousands have lost their lives. It also affected and halted the possible production of the Ukrainian version of the show. Since then, the broadcasts came back for 5 times between April-June.
  • In the 21st episode, contestants Vladimir Mikloshich, Keti Topuriya and Baygali Serkebayev became the 5th trio in the Russian version's history.
  • On April 9, 2022, a repeat of the March 21, 2020 episode, in memory of Vladimir Zhirinovsky aired.
  • In this season, celebrity Mikhail Boyarsky made a record. He appeared 12 times in the show.
  • The 22nd episode was broadcast differently in different regions of Russia: in the Far East, in Siberia, in the Urals time zones, the full episode was aired, and in Moscow time zone, this episode aired incompletely (only Mikhail and Vladimir's run) due to the live broadcast of the convergence of the Holy Fire.
  • On June 18, 2022, the last episode with Dmitry Dibrov, (who hosted the show from 1999-2001 and 2008-2022) as the host aired, contestants Yekaterina Andreyeva and Dmitry Borisov won 200,000 rubles, after answering the 14th and penultimate question wrong and they were the most recent contestants to reach the 14th question and they were the most recent penultimate prize losers (until February 17, 2024). As of February 17, 2024, there has been a penultimate prize loss in Karaulova's version of the show.
  • Top Prize Losers Viktor Vasilyev (who did win 1.5 million in 2020) and Yekaterina Andreyeva appeared in this season and they answered the penultimate question wrong in their separate runs, losing 400,000 rubles and 600,000 rubles, respectively and they had not appeared on the show ever since.
