This is the sixteenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Hindi Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The host of the season is Amitabh Bachchan. The series premiered on 12th August 2024 at 9pm (UTC +5:30). The top prize is ₹70,000,000 (₹7 Crores).
Changes[]
Super Sawaal[]
A new minigame called Super Sawaal (Super Question) was introduced in this new season. The Super Sawaal is a bonus question that appears after the first safe haven (Question 5) and will have no options and no choice of using a lifeline. They will just have to use their knowledge. If the Super Sawaal is answered correctly, contestants get the opportunity to use the 2x superpower or Dugnastra.
This superpower enables the contestants to press the buzzer and double the winnings of a particular question of their choice from Q6 to Q10. So, if a contestant used the superpower at Q9 (₹1,60,000), and answers it correctly, they end up with a bonus amount of ₹1,60,000 that will be added to their final winning amount. For an example, if a contestant wins ₹50,00,000, an additional ₹1,60,000 from the Dugnastra is awarded, and the total prize winnings will be ₹51,60,000. However, if the player uses a lifeline during Dugnastra, it will no longer be available, and the timer returns as normal.
Combined with Super Sandook, the maximum amount of winnings that can be awarded in one run in this season is ₹7,04,20,000, by using the superpower at ₹3,20,000 (question 10), correctly answering all 10 questions in the Super Sandook and not trading it in for reusing a lifeline, along with winning the jackpot prize. Because the superpower is only usable on or before the 10th question, a contestant cannot win ₹2 Crores or ₹14 Crores with this superpower.
Challenger Week and Jaldi 5[]
Instead of playing on Friday every week, contestants who qualified through SonyLIV Play Along will compete in India's Challenger Week, which took place every last week of each month. In these episodes, the top two contestants in the Fastest Finger First will take part in a minigame called Jaldi 5.
In Jaldi 5, the two contestants battle each other out for a place in the Hot Seat by being the first to give five correct answers. Contestants must buzz in to give an answer; whoever presses the button first must give their answer. They can press the button whenever, even when the options are not fully revealed. A contestant gets one point for each correct answer, but if they give the incorrect answer or take too long to answer, their opponent has a chance to steal by locking another option. If both contestants get it wrong, or if 5 seconds have passed and neither contestant buzzes in after the host finished reading the options, the question is then voided. Whoever gets five points first will make it into the Hot Seat, while the losing contestant returns to the FFF row and can compete in the next Jaldi 5 if they reach the top 2 in Fastest Finger First again.
For these episodes as well, the first five questions are skipped, with the winning contestant starting their run on question 6 (₹20,000) and a guaranteed first milestone. However, Super Sawaal and Dugnaastra are unavailable, and contestants cannot get the bonus money from these minigames. Super Sandook is still available after correctly answering question 10.
Lifelines[]
It is a clock format (for the first ten questions) and three lifelines are given from the start. These lifelines previously appeared in Season 15. If KBC Junior episodes were to air with special lifelines, they will be listed as such denoting that they are exclusive to these episodes.
- Audience Poll
- Phone a Friend (video calls, 45 seconds)
- Double Dip

Trivia[]
- The 10th question music cue with Sitar and Bongo Drums has been first played since the 40th episode of Season 14 aired on 29th September, 2022. In Season 16, this cue is played in the Super Sawaal or when contestants use Dugnastra; while in Season 14, episodes from 01 to 20 and 22, it was played in the 7th and 10th question (in the 40th episode, it was played in the 8th question of contestant Sneha Nair by a mistake)[1].
Episodes 01-10[]
- In the 1st episode, Utkarsh Baxi was the first contestant to get ₹3,20,000 from the Super Sawaal.
- In the 3rd episode, Vaishnavi Bharti was the first contestant to take the money from both Super Sawaal and Super Sandook.
- In the 4th episode, Ram Kishor Pandit was the first contestant to answer the Super Sawaal incorrectly and his Dugnastra could never be activated. He left the game with ₹10,000 after answering the 9th question incorrectly.
- In the 6th episode, Kajol Ved was the first contestant to use her lifeline (Double Dip) during activating the Dugnastra, which then, her Dugnastra was forfeited. Dr. Mustansir Abbasi was the second to do that in the 09th episode, but he used Video-Call-A-Friend instead of Double Dip.
- Also in the 6th episode, Dr. Raghavendra was the first contestant to answer incorrectly during using the Dugnastra. It was the 10th question, so he left the game with ₹10,000 (lost ₹1,50,000).
- In the 9th episode, Nareshi Meena was the first contestant to see the ₹1 Crore question, after Avinash Bharti, the final original contestant of Season 15. Same as Avinash, Nareshi's ₹1 Crore question was also the first question in the new episode.
- The 9th episode was the first one not to have any Super Sandook games, since Priyanka Porwal and Dr. Mustansir Abbasi, the two contestants after Nareshi Meena, couldn't finish the 10th question.
- In the 10th episode, Mitesh Damji Nandu was the first contestant to quit during the Dugnastra. He left the game with ₹1,60,000.
- Also, in the 10th episode and in the 11th question of contestant Nisha Raj, 62% of audience voted for option B (WB Yeats), which was the wrong answer. The right answer was D (William Rothenstein), and it was voted by only 19% of audience. Luckily, her question was low risk, so she lost nothing, leaving game with ₹4,80,000 (₹3,20,000 from the main game and ₹1,60,000 from the Super Sawaal). See her question here:
