Kaun Banega Crorepati (2023 season)

This is the fifteenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The host of the season is Amitabh Bachchan. The top prize is 70,000,000 rupees (or 7 Crores).

Apart from the third season, this is Bachchan's fourteenth consecutive season as the host of KBC.

Changes[]

There are some minor changes in this season:

  1. The money tree again has 16 questions, instead of 17, it only lasted for one season.
  2. The top prize was decreased from 7.5 Crores to 7 Crores and the 75 Lakh question was removed.
  3. The FFF Triple Test was replaced by the original one.
  4. The new minigame called Super Sandook (Super Chest) was introduced.
  5. The show has its new music scores, which is composed by Rohan and Vinayak.[1]

  • Phone-a-Friend - (also known as the "Video Call A Friend" lifeline) (45 seconds).
  • Double Dip - (replaced 50:50, it would be the first time the lifeline would return since Season 8 which premiered in 2014; it would be the first time that the Double Dip would be a part of the 16-question format worldwide).
  • Switch the Question - (Superpower, in the KBC Junior Episodes)
  • Ask the Expert (in the KBC Junior Episodes)

  • Due to the Super Sandook minigame, the maximum prize money that a player can receive in this season is Rs. 70,100,000 (all 10 questions in Super Sandook are correct and player choose the money instead of a lifeline)

Episodes 1-10[]

  • Sushmita Sahay was the first contestant of the season and was the contestant for the duration of the first episode.
  • Anshu Kumar Shahi was the first contestant to leave the game with all of the three lifelines intact and he left with Rs. 10,000.
  • Dhimahi Rajendrakumar Trivedi was the first contestant to get a question wrong with the "Double Dip" intact and like Shahi, she also left with Rs. 10,000.
  • Shahi and Trivedi appeared in the second episode of the season on August 15, 2023.
  • Kapil Dev became the second contestant to win Rs. 1,250,000 and was the first contestant to leave the game with the "Double Dip" intact, he had no idea and decided to walk away with the money and he is not the first contestant to walk away with a lifeline intact, in the Hindi version of the show.
  • Rahul Kumar Nema was the first contestant to win Rs. 5,000,000, on the show and was the first contestant to see the 15th question for Rs. 10,000,000, since the 13th season, he would have played for Rs. 7,500,000, if he actually played in the 14th season of the Hindi version of the show.
  • Rahul Kumar Nema was also the first contestant to see the 1 Crore question since when top prize loser Shashwat Goel played, he won Rs. 7,500,000, back in October 2022, after answering the 17th and the final question incorrectly.
  • Rahul Kumar Nema was the first contestant to use the "Double Dip", after the tenth (10th) question in this season and he used it on the twelfth (12th) question.
  • R. Balki, Saiyami Kher and Abhishek Bachchan are the first three celebrities of the show and also played as a team (together) and they won Rs. 1,250,000.
  • Kunalsinh N Dodiya became the first contestant to use the "Double Dip" lifeline on the 13th question and guessed it correctly and he was the first player to take the winnings, after the Super Sandook game.
  • Yogesh Kumar Kalra suffered a big loss when it was his turn to play the game, he answered the 13th question correctly and won a quarter of a crore (Rs. 2,500,000), he had no lifelines when he played the 14th question, he randomly locked in an option, got it wrong and lost a massive Rs. 2,180,000, his total winnings were Rs. 320,000 and was the first contestant to win that season in this season. In the 14th season, Pooja Tripathy did the same thing, but the only difference between Yogesh and Pooja's runs is that they had the Double Dip and the 50:50 lifelines, in their runs, respectively.
  • Saruabh Sengupta was the first contestant to win Rs. 320,000, but without playing the 11th question as the show had ran out of time.
  • On the fifth episode, after answering the tenth question right and after Super Sandook, Abhishek Bachchan switches seats with the host to play Super Fundook. These are the questions:[requires translation]

Episodes 11-100[]

  • In the 17th episode, Jaskaran Singh became the first crorepati of the season. He is the second person in the history of the show to use Double Dip on the penultimate question. His other lifeline - Phone-A-Friend - was stripped in the final question.
  • In the 29th episode, Jasnil Kumar became the second crorepati of the season.
  • In the 73rd episode, Virat Iyer became the first contestant to lose on the 1 Crore question and the first to get it wrong since Anu Anna Varghese in August 2022. Anu won 75 Lakhs since there was a milestone before the 1 Crore question and Virat was really unlucky and his winnings were dropped to 3.2 Lakhs. Not only that, he is a penultimate prize loser. He was also the first contestant after Prapti Sharma in Season 14 to lose 46.8 Lakh (Prapti Sharma also answered incorrectly the 15th question but it was the 75 Lakh Rupees).
  • In the 77th episode, Mayank became the third crorepati of the season. According to SET India, he was also the youngest crorepati ever in KBC History.
  • The final episode aired on 29th December, 2023. After this episode, many people think that Mr. Amitabh Bachchan would leave KBC after hosting this show for fourteen seasons.[2] However, in the video about the announcement of KBC Season 16 Registration on 16th April, 2024, Big B said he would still host this season instead of leaving the show.[3] Season 16 will be aired on 12th August, 2024.
