Ask a Friend is a lifeline similar to Plus One that allows the player to consult a question with his friend sitting among the audience. This lifeline is available in the Australian version of Hot Seat, and the Flemish version of Hot Seat in Belgium. This lifeline was later also used in Wer wird Millionär? and in Die Millionenshow due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A nominated friend of the contestant will be sat behind the contestant in the audience. When this lifeline is used, the host addresses the audience member about readiness to give an answer to the question, then reads out the question and the following answers. The clock then starts, and the contestant and companion will have to talk to each other to reach an answer before time runs out. The contestant also cannot turn to look at the audience member.
